Citizens’ Oversight and the organizers of March Against Monsanto San Diego announce EARTH SUMMIT — Sustainable Living Conference in San Diego. Experts and community members are coming together to get a deeper understanding of the environmental crisis and take action.

WHEN:     Saturday, May 25, 2019

WHERE:     San Diego Balboa Park Club Ballroom, 2150 Pan American Road West (next to the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater)

TIME:        9:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The room opens for setup at 8:00 a.m.

Earth Summit is organized around the four elements Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. The figure in the center of our logo represents Health.

Here are some examples of specific subjects within the sustainable living categories:

Earth: Food, Soil, Seeds, GMOs, Composting, Animal Conservation, Carbon Sequestration, Business & Housing, Economic Justice

Wind: Air Pollution, Climate Change, Wind Energy

Fire: Transition to Renewable Energy, Green Transportation, Solar Infrastructure

Water: Water Management, Grey Water, Rainwater Collection, Ocean Health, Tijuana River Crisis

This year, we are focusing on the Green New Deal. Each speaker should reflect on how the Green New Deal might support their subject.

Each hour-long panel has four speakers. Each speaker makes a 10-minute presentation, followed by the audience and moderator Q & A. We will send you the details of your panel and confirm your acceptance by May 10. We can support a power-point style presentation, so please let us know when you apply if you will use one. The facility comfortably accommodates 500 seated attendees.

We encourage each speaker to provide an opportunity for attendees to take immediate action. For example, you may have a postcard to send or the email address of a public official. More ambitious ideas are welcome. Details can be made available to attendees at your table. Each speaker’s table and chairs will be located within the ballroom at the sides and can be used for your display and literature, as well as your suggested immediate action for the attendees. Please keep in mind that all displays must be free standing, as nothing may be attached to the walls of this historic building. Of course, conversations at the tables during presentations are discouraged due to the excellent sound carrying acoustics of this lovely ballroom.
